Project ISAAC students at Anna Jarvis Elementary received a lesson in engineering and wind energy before Thanksgiving break with the help of the Taylor County WVU Extention Office. Students received background information about how a windmill produces energy with the help of the wind to turn the turbine. Students then had to engineer a windmill design determining the shape and size of the blades as well as how many blades that they will use on their windmill.
After the engineering and design process were complete, students moved into the building phase of the project which required students to build a model of the windmill they designed.
Finally students were able to test and modify their design by using a fan and a volt meter to de-termine how much energy was being produced from their windmill design.
All of the students had a great time trying to build the windmill that was able to produce the

ABOUT
Project ISAAC is a 21st Century Community Learning Center program through RESA 7. Funding is provided, wholly or in part, by a grant from the United States Department of Education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title IV Part B, with grant administration carried out by the West Virginia Department of Education. Project ISAAC is administered through RESA 7.
RESA 7’s Project ISAAC Program is currently underway at four sites of-fering math tutoring, reading tutoring, recreation time, enrichment and homework help to all students that participate.
All students are also offered a supper before they leave to go home for the evening.
The sites are Nutter Fort Intermediate/Primary serving students K-5, Philippi Middle School serving Philippi Elementary students in grades 4-8, Anna Jarvis Elementary serving students K-4, Central Preston Middle School/Preston High School serving students 6-12, Elkins Middle School serving students from Midland Elementary and a site at Westwood Middle School serving grades 6-8.
